The lifeless body of Elizabeth Awhobiwom Ukah, a 23-year-old student of the Federal College of Nursing Sciences, Calabar, was discovered in a drainage along Musaha Umoh Okon Street in the Ekpo Abasi area of Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State.
The discovery was made in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025. Initially unidentified, residents alerted authorities after noticing the body lying face down. Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Police Force turned the body over and began investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Journalist Agba Jalingo later identified the deceased in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 23. According to him, Elizabeth was suspected to have been swept away by floodwaters while returning home after attending a Good Friday mass and participating in the Stations of the Cross at Holy Family Catholic Church, Big Qua Town, near Marian Market, Calabar.
Elizabeth Ukah hailed from the Ohong community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.
