Donatus Ndubuisi, a 29-year-old student at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has been laid to rest after being brutally killed by Fulani herdsmen in Amofia Umuhu Eha-Amufu, Enugu State. Ndubuisi, the only child of a widowed mother, was buried on Friday, March 7, 2025, in a funeral marked by tears and sorrow.
On February 28, 2025, Ndubuisi was shot and killed while assisting his mother in harvesting cassava on their farm. The Solar Energy technician had traveled home from his studies in Enugu to visit his mother. Upon finding her at the farm, he decided to help her. While working together, they were ambushed by Fulani herdsmen. Ndubuisi was shot in the back and killed during the attack. Tragically, his father had also been killed by the same herdsmen in the community.
Samuel Ede, a community leader, confirmed the incident, explaining the ongoing violence in the area. “The boy, Donatus Ndubuisi, was studying in Enugu and working as a Solar Energy technician. When he returned to his village, he found his mother at the farm. He went to help her harvest cassava, but they were attacked by Fulani herdsmen. They shot him in the back, and he died,” Ede said. “This young man was the only child of a widow, and his father had also been killed by Fulani herdsmen.”
The killing sparked widespread outrage, leading to a massive protest in Eha-Amufu on Thursday. Thousands of women from seven autonomous communities took to the streets to condemn the violence and demand justice for Ndubuisi.
