Operatives from the Gombe State Police Command successfully rescued a 27-year-old man who attempted suicide by climbing a telecommunication mast. The man, identified as Mohammed Bello, claimed he was being pursued by security agencies over unpaid debts.

The incident occurred on March 8, 2025, when the police received a distress call reporting an individual on top of an MTN mast at Maimala Buni Street, Gombe. According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police spokesperson, Bello expressed his desire to end his life rather than face the consequences of his financial situation.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Divisional Police Officer of Pantami Division led the intervention. Bello explained that he was being hunted by security forces due to debts from two creditors. A respected community leader, Katukan Gombe, successfully persuaded Bello to come down from the mast, assuring him that his debts would be addressed.

Bello complied and safely descended, after which he was taken into police custody. His statement was recorded, and the police commended the swift response of their officers and the crucial role played by the community in resolving the situation peacefully.

The police also urged the public to seek lawful solutions to financial issues and reminded individuals that help is always available.
