Economic Boost: FG Approves Modular Refinery for Abia’s Industrial Hub

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a modular refinery within the Abia Industrial and Innovative Park (AIIP) in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area, a move expected to boost industrialization and economic growth in the region.

Governor Alex Otti made the announcement while flagging off the construction of the 11.1-kilometre Obehie-Umudobia-Owaza road, a vital project aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the area.

Speaking at the event, Otti emphasized that the road construction goes beyond infrastructure, as it will revive economic assets, create new opportunities, and restore the region’s lost dreams.

“I am pleased to inform you that just a few days ago, we received approval for a modular refinery to be built inside AIIP by H.I.S. Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited,” Otti stated.

He assured residents that the Abia State Government would fully support the refinery project, which will enhance industrial activities and improve the economic viability of AIIP. The road project is expected to be completed within a year, further improving accessibility to the industrial park.
