Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Thanks Nigerians for Support During Senate Suspension

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has extended her heartfelt appreciation to Nigerians for their unwavering support during her ordeal with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers who worked against her in the red chamber, leading to her suspension.

In a statement released on her official Facebook page today, March 12, 2025, the senator from Kogi Central expressed profound gratitude to Nigerian women and supportive men across the country for standing by her in her pursuit of justice and fair hearing regarding her sexual harassment petition to the Senate.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Nigerian women and the supportive men ALL OVER the country who stand by me in my pursuit for justice and fair hearing regarding my sexual harassment petition to the Senate,” she stated.

Natasha lamented her suspension, describing it as illegal, and urged Nigerians to continue insisting that the Senate respect the rule of law by reversing its decision and investigating her petition through the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

She emphasized the collective stand taken against abuse of power in a public institution like the Nigerian Senate, stating that such a fight is crucial for the preservation of democracy.

“Together, we have taken a stand against abuse of power, especially in a public institution like the Nigerian Senate, for the preservation of our democracy. Thank you for believing in this cause and standing strong with me,” she added.

It will be recalled that Natasha’s suspension had sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians, civil rights groups, and women’s organizations condemning the Senate’s action and calling for her immediate reinstatement. The controversy stemmed from her insistence on bringing to light allegations of sexual harassment within the legislative body, a move that reportedly irked some top lawmakers.

As the call for justice intensifies, political observers believe that the support Natasha has garnered from Nigerians could increase pressure on the Senate leadership to reconsider its decision. Her unwavering resolve and the solidarity of her supporters continue to send a strong message against any attempt to silence voices advocating for accountability and justice.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains optimistic that with continued public support, the Senate will be compelled to uphold justice and fairness in handling her case.
