Gunmen, believed to be kidnappers, have abducted Wale Oluyi, the owner of Daisi Oluyi Farms, and his manager, according to The Nation. The attackers reportedly raided the farm near Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area around 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, firing shots before abducting their victims.
Family sources confirmed that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N30 million for their release. Friends and family members have begun pooling money to secure their freedom.
The incident has been reported to the Ala Elofosan police station, but Ondo State Police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, did not respond to requests for comment.
In response to the incident, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has vowed to eliminate criminal activities in the state. During a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, he stated that his administration would not allow Ondo to become a sanctuary for criminals.
“We will not allow Ondo State to become a haven for criminals. While we welcome all law-abiding Nigerians who wish to live and conduct legitimate business here, we will not tolerate individuals disguising themselves as farmers and using our forests as hideouts for illegal activities like kidnapping,” he said.
The governor also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and village heads to stay vigilant and cooperate with security forces.
“Whenever you notice any suspicious movement, alert security agents immediately. If you see something, say something. Security is a collective responsibility,” he added.
Aiyedatiwa also announced plans to meet with traditional rulers to discuss the increasing security challenges in the state.
