The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land titles of 4,794 property owners across ten districts in Abuja due to non-payment of ground rents for over a decade.
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, revealed this decision during a press briefing at the FCT administration’s headquarters in Abuja.
Olayinka explained that a total of over six billion naira is owed to the FCTA by 8,375 property owners who have failed to settle their ground rent. Additionally, he announced that the grace period for more than 3,500 landowners has been extended, giving them a final opportunity to pay their outstanding debts, or face further revocation of their property titles.
The affected areas include Central Business District, Garki 1 and 2, Wuse 1 and 2, Maitama, Asokoro, and Guzape.
