The Akoko Youth Forum has reacted to an invitation extended to it by the Department of State Security (DSS) following the groups support for 2025 Akoko Youth Summit.
In a statement signed by the group’s President, Blessing James Akeju, alleged that the group was invited for its involvement in the plannned 2025 Akoko Youth Summit .
Reaffirming its commitment to peace, security, and youth empowerment, the group stated: “As Akoko youth, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the security and peace of the state and will continue to contribute actively to fostering a harmonious environment.”
The group appealed for transparency in handling the matter to avoid discouraging young people from actively participating in governance and societal development.
The statement reads, “In a surprising development, the Attorney General of Ondo State has reportedly petitioned the Department of State Security Service (DSS), Ondo Command, regarding the Akoko Youth Forum’s involvement in the planned Akoko Youth Summit 2025.
“This move follows a recent courtesy visit by our group to the Office of the Attorney General of Ondo State, where discussions centered on youth engagement, security, and developmental initiatives for Akoko youth.
“However, we find ourselve under scrutiny, raising concerns about perceived attempts to suppress youth-led initiatives aimed at fostering unity and progress.
“We would honour the DSS invitation and attend the scheduled session at the agency’s Akure office by 12 Noon on Monday, March 31, 2025.
“This development has sparked reactions from stakeholders , with many questioning why a platform designed to promote youth dialogue and community progress would be met with security concerns. “
