Kalu Calls For Prosecution Of Those Behind Killing Of Chinese Miners And Police Officer In Abia

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Abia State Government to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of two Chinese nationals and a police inspector in the state.

The victims were reportedly killed by gunmen who ambushed a convoy transporting the Chinese nationals and their police escorts to a mining site in Isuikwuato, Abia State.

In a statement issued from his media office on Sunday, Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, strongly condemned the brutal attack and the deaths of the Chinese expatriates and the police officer. He expressed his outrage over what he described as “deliberate and unprovoked attacks on expatriates and security personnel.”

The statement read: “Despite our continued efforts to combat insecurity, criminal acts persist. I deeply condemn these senseless and unprovoked attacks, which resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and a police officer, and left several others injured near the Huan Cheng Mining Quarry site in Agukwu Amaya, Ndundu community, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia North Senatorial District.

“I urge the Inspector General of Police, relevant security agencies, and the Abia State Government to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice. Additionally, measures must be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring.”

Kalu extended his condolences to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and the affected families. He further urged security agencies to ramp up efforts to safeguard citizens and expatriates, particularly during this critical time for the country’s economic growth and development.
