Stephen Enang, an Inspector of Police from Nigeria and a dedicated Arsenal fan, tragically passed away shortly after watching his beloved team defeat Spanish giants Real Madrid 3-0 on Tuesday, April 8.
According to eyewitnesses, Enang, a native of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State and a member of the Akim Police Division in Calabar, was watching the match at a local viewing center on Abang-Asang Street. He was in high spirits, celebrating every goal with excitement. Arsenal’s 3-0 victory had him cheering and jumping in joy after each goal. However, after the final whistle, as other fans began to leave, it became apparent that something was wrong when Enang didn’t get up with the crowd.
One eyewitness recalled, “He was in great spirits—healthy and happy, cheering throughout the match. But after the game ended, we noticed Stephen wasn’t getting up like the rest of us. That’s when we realized something had happened.”
Enang was found slumped in his seat and unresponsive. He was quickly rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical staff attempted to revive him, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
The unexpected passing of the officer has left his friends, family, and colleagues in shock. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
