The political rally organized by The NEW Associates, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 12 in Yenagoa, has been postponed to April 26, 2025. George Turnah, MON, convener of the event and leader of the Bayelsa State Chapter, made the announcement on Friday, April 11, during a press briefing in Yenagoa.
The rally, which had sparked interest as a possible pro-Wike mobilization, was expected to make a significant political statement in Bayelsa amid growing tensions. However, Turnah explained that the rescheduling was due to conflicting engagements and a desire to respect ongoing Ijaw leadership consultations.
“Several Pro-Diri and Pro-Tambuwal groups had already planned solidarity rallies for the same date and location as our event,” Turnah said. “As a peaceful, people-driven organization, we decided to move our rally to give these groups space to express themselves and avoid unnecessary tension.”
The NEW Associates, a grassroots movement supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, has been active in the South-South region. Political analysts view the group as part of a broader realignment ahead of upcoming elections.
Turnah emphasized the group’s commitment to national unity and development, stating, “We believe that President Tinubu’s success is Nigeria’s success. Our movement is about development, peace, and empowerment—not division.”
He expressed appreciation to supporters, stakeholders, and members of the movement, urging them to maintain momentum as they prepare for the rescheduled rally on April 26.
