The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has called on traditional rulers to work closely with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to tackle thuggery and related crimes across the state.

He made the appeal on Sunday during a stakeholder meeting organized by the Kano State Taskforce Committee on Security and Youth Rehabilitation, held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.

“I urge our traditional rulers to fully support efforts to end thuggery in Kano. You need to study your communities, identify potential security threats, and work with your local DPOs to address them,” CP Bakori said.

He also instructed DPOs to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to address rising crime in the state. “With public support and cooperation, we can put an end to Daba (thuggery) in Kano,” he added.

The Commissioner praised the support of security stakeholders and commended the Taskforce Committee for its dedication to promoting peace and youth rehabilitation.

“Our traditional rulers, especially ward heads, are close to the people and understand local security concerns. Their input is key to restoring peace and stability in the state,” he noted.

Also speaking at the event, Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling security issues. He said the creation of the Taskforce Committee on Security Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation shows the state’s determination to address challenges like thuggery and drug abuse.

“These threats are constantly evolving, so we need to be proactive, not reactive. This requires practical action and cooperation from everyone involved,” Gwarzo said.
