Controversial street-pop artist Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet strict bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court.
The remand follows his arraignment on Monday over allegations of defamation made by veteran Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, also known as Saheed Osupa.
Portable was granted bail set at ₦1 million, with two sureties in like sum. However, the court stipulated that one surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, and the other a property owner in a Government Reserved Area in Ilorin, backed by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The case, filed under FIR 117(1) CPC by the Kwara State Police Intelligence Department, stems from a petition by Osupa dated March 21, 2025. Osupa accused Portable of making defamatory statements during a live Instagram broadcast, where he claimed Osupa was envious of his success and sabotaging his music earnings.
In the video, Portable allegedly said, “This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach… Na him remove my song from platform, make I no see money.”
Osupa said the statements were not only defamatory but also incited public hatred and disturbed the peace.
Police arrested Portable in Abeokuta on April 13, following a valid arrest warrant. He was then transferred to Ilorin for questioning, during which he reportedly confessed in the presence of legal representatives.
According to police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the allegations against Portable include criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to breach public peace.
