Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was reportedly stunned by a wage cut this season following the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League. The 29-year-old Cameroonian, who has struggled throughout the campaign, hit a new low last week after being dropped from the starting lineup in favor of Altay Bayindir for the 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
Onana arrived at training yesterday accompanied by his agent, sparking speculation about a potential exit. Reports suggest a move to the Saudi Pro League could be on the table.
According to The Athletic, Onana was surprised by the drop in salary, a result of United only qualifying for the Europa League. He reportedly addressed the issue with then-sporting director Dan Ashworth. Combined with his recent benching, the situation appears to be pushing the keeper toward a possible summer departure.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added more insight on his YouTube channel:
“For Onana, the situation is one to watch this summer. He changed agents in January, now represented by Fali Ramadani of Lian Sports. There’s been long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League, even during his time at Inter. While he chose United to fulfill a dream, the interest from Saudi clubs is still very strong.”
