The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has distanced itself from a wave of misleading and fraudulent messages circulating among candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin revealed that suspected scammers are using the UTME number, 8863, alongside the Board’s official shortcode, 55019, to create a deceptive code that mimics JAMB’s messaging system.
These fraudsters have been sending false messages to candidates, claiming to have detected issues with their registration details and urging them to contact certain individuals for assistance.
Dr. Benjamin emphasized that these messages are not from JAMB and warned candidates to ignore them. He confirmed that security agencies are investigating the scammers behind this fraudulent activity.
He urged the public to remain cautious and thoroughly assess any messages they receive. If a message doesn’t align with JAMB’s official communication or contains suspicious instructions, it should be treated as a scam.
