New Alaafin Of Oyo, Abimbola Owoade

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has appointed a new Chief of Staff and promoted his former aide, Rotimi Osuntola, to the position of Special Adviser to the Throne.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by Osuntola, titled ‘Re: My New Role as Special Adviser to His Imperial Majesty, The Alaafin of Oyo’. Osuntola previously served as Chief of Staff from January to early April 2025.

In his statement, Osuntola expressed gratitude for the new role:

It is with deep humility that I accept the responsibility bestowed upon me by His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, the Alaafin of Oyo, as Special Adviser to the Throne. It is a great privilege to serve the Oyo monarchy in any capacity His Majesty sees fit.

He reflected on his journey alongside the monarch, highlighting his contributions during the transition period and coronation preparations.

From the outset of His Majesty’s reign, I have proudly offered financial, intellectual, and moral support, alongside many others committed to preserving the Alaafin’s legacy, he stated.

Osuntola congratulated his successor, Mr. Bayo Ajibade, and called for collective support for the new Chief of Staff.

It has been an honour to serve. As Mr. Ajibade takes on this vital role, I urge everyone—both within Oyo and in the diaspora—to support him fully.

Reaffirming his dedication, Osuntola emphasized his commitment to the continued progress of Oyo and the Yoruba nation:

I remain devoted to the development of Oyo and the broader Yoruba land. My experience across various sectors, both locally and internationally, will continue to guide my service.

He concluded by appreciating those who have supported him over the years:

To the royal family, stakeholders, and sons and daughters of Oyo—thank you. Your trust inspires me as we work together to honour our heritage and shape a brighter future.
