Police Nab Car Thieves, Turn Down ₦1m Bribe In Katsina

Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested two suspected car thieves who attempted to bribe officers with ₦1 million to evade justice. The suspects, identified as Mubarak Kabir (26) and Adamu Hashim (27), both from Kurna Quarters in Fagge LGA, Kano State, were apprehended during a routine patrol in Birnin Kuka village, Mashi Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the suspects were caught driving a green Toyota Corolla LE, which was later confirmed to have been stolen from Abuja.

“During the stop, the suspects offered the officers ₦1,000,000 in cash to avoid arrest, but the patrol team firmly rejected the bribe,” the statement read.

Police recovered several items from the suspects, including the stolen vehicle, the ₦1 million cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys. The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the officers for their professionalism and integrity, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while upholding the rule of law and respecting human rights.
