The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that candidates are allowed to take their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in any part of the country, regardless of where they registered.
This clarification came from JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, in response to a misleading publication claiming that candidates must sit for the exam only in their state of registration.
The information being circulated is incorrect,” Benjamin said. “During a recent interview, I explained that candidates are free to register from any location and select any examination town across Nigeria.
He emphasized that JAMB’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres are grouped by towns for convenience, allowing candidates to choose a specific town for their exam.
For example, if a candidate chooses Garki as their exam town, they must take the exam there. They won’t be moved to another town, as some reports have wrongly claimed.
Benjamin further explained that this flexible system is meant to make the process easier for candidates:
A candidate can register in Lagos and decide to sit for the exam in Sokoto, or any other town. It’s all about what’s most convenient for the individual.
JAMB urged candidates and the public to disregard the false reports and rely only on official communication from the board.
