Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of insincerity in their recent political strategies.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Wike took aim at Atiku’s call for a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027—a move that has already faced resistance from within the PDP. Governor Seyi Makinde, Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, recently distanced the forum from the coalition effort.
“Those calling for a coalition are not being truthful, even within the party,” Wike said. “The PDP Governors Forum is acting in self-interest and lacks sincerity—both to the party and to themselves.”
Wike revealed that he personally reached out to Governor Makinde following his appearance on a political talk show, challenging the governor’s claims.
“I told him he wasn’t being honest about some of the issues,” Wike said. “The PDP lost in 2023 largely due to impunity—people disregarded the party’s constitution, especially on power rotation between the North and South.”
He warned that the party is on the verge of repeating the same mistakes.
“If this pattern continues, we’re bound to face the same outcome in 2027,” he said.
Wike also criticized the influence of the PDP Governors Forum, calling it a mere pressure group rather than an official organ of the party. He urged the party not to allow it to interfere with the decisions of the National Working Committee.
“If this impunity goes unchecked, it will severely damage the party’s future,” Wike concluded.
