Panic swept through Oremeta Street in the Ojodu area of Lagos State on Saturday morning after a two-storey building housing the Equal Right Restaurant collapsed, trapping several people inside.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m., with reports indicating that restaurant staff, customers, and a family were inside the building at the time of the collapse.

Emergency response teams, including the Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. Dozens of concerned residents and sympathizers also gathered at the site.

Speaking to journalists, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that five people had been rescued alive as of the time of reporting.

“We are approaching the situation systematically, using both heavy-duty and light-duty equipment to reach ground zero,” he stated. “We have credible information that more individuals are still trapped under the rubble, so we’re carefully working through each layer in search of survivors.”

Rescue operations are ongoing, and further updates will follow.
