The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has encouraged Nigerians to hold onto hope and faith despite the many challenges facing the nation. In his Easter message on Sunday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, reminded the public that the core message of Easter is one of hope, resilience, and victory over adversity.
He acknowledged the struggles many Nigerians, especially Christians in conflict-prone regions, face daily due to persecution and insecurity. “Yet, even in the face of adversity, the spirit of Easter endures,” Okoh said.
Drawing on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he urged Nigerians to rise above their trials with faith and unity, stating, “Just as Christ rose from the dead, we too can rise above our trials.”
Okoh emphasized that Easter symbolizes God’s triumph over suffering and death, adding that it proves “light will always triumph over darkness, and love will conquer fear.”
He called on Christians to use the season for reflection, spiritual renewal, and acts of kindness, urging believers to care for the marginalized, support one another, and promote peaceful coexistence across religious and cultural lines.
“Let us strengthen our bonds of fellowship, extend compassion to those in need, and build a more just and caring society,” he said.
The CAN President concluded with a prayer that the victory of Christ’s resurrection would renew Nigerians’ strength and serve as a beacon of hope during difficult times.
