Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier League after a 1-0 loss to Liverpool, marking a disappointing end to a troubled season. The defeat confirms the Foxes’ drop to the Championship, making them the second team, after Southampton, to be relegated this year.
It’s a tough fall for a club that made history by winning the Premier League in 2016 and later lifted the FA Cup. Now, just a few years later, Leicester suffer their second relegation in three seasons, earning a reputation as a “yo-yo” team struggling to stay in the top flight.
The 2024–25 campaign was plagued by poor form and a lack of goals. Leicester went over 12 hours without scoring at home and managed just one win in their last 19 matches—form that sealed their fate well before the final game.
The season started under manager Steve Cooper, who was sacked after 12 matches, despite the team not being in the relegation zone at the time. His exit was surrounded by controversy, including a viral video showing players partying, hinting at unrest in the dressing room.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was brought in to turn things around but couldn’t stop the decline. The team dropped into the relegation zone soon after his arrival and never recovered.
Despite occasional strong performances from individual players, Leicester lacked team chemistry and struggled with back-to-back managerial changes. The club now faces a crucial summer of rebuilding as they aim to bounce back from the Championship and return to Premier League contention.
