The Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB) has started compiling a list of retired civil servants who have not fully repaid their housing loans.

This was disclosed by the board’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Ngozi Obiechina, in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja. According to her, the board plans to recover mortgaged properties from defaulters in line with the loan agreements.

Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs. Salamatu Ahmed, explained that this action follows a memo from the Office of the Head of Civil Service, which reminded workers of the rule requiring a Certificate of Non-Indebtedness before retirement.

She warned that retirees who failed to repay their loans risk losing their properties, as the FGSHLB has the legal right to reclaim them. The directive also applies to those who have already retired but are still owing.

Ahmed urged affected public servants to settle their debts and obtain the necessary clearance, as the board will be forwarding the compiled list of defaulters to relevant agencies for enforcement and recovery.
