Mtn Confirms Cyber-Attack, Says Systems Are Safe

MTN confirms cyber attack on network

MTN Nigeria has confirmed it recently experienced a cyber-attack but assured customers and stakeholders that its core systems remain secure and Nigerian operations were not affected.

In a statement released on Thursday, April 24, the telecom giant said it detected unauthorized activity on its network and acted swiftly to isolate and contain the breach.

MTN CEO, Karl Toriola, stated that early investigations revealed the attackers attempted to disrupt services but failed to access critical infrastructure or customer data.
“We take cybersecurity seriously and have strong systems in place to detect and neutralize threats,” Toriola said. “The attack was unsuccessful in breaching our core infrastructure.”

While the company didn’t disclose details about the nature or source of the attack, experts warn that telecom operators across Africa are increasingly being targeted due to rapid digital growth and a large user base.

A company insider confirmed that MTN’s Nigerian network remained fully secure throughout the incident, helping to maintain trust in the integrity of its local services.

As Nigeria continues to push its digital transformation agenda, MTN said it is working with cybersecurity professionals and government agencies to investigate the incident and further strengthen its defenses.
