Wike Sets Terms For Peace In Rivers Crisis

              Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has outlined clear terms for any genuine reconciliation with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his former political ally.

Speaking on Friday, April 25, during the platinum jubilee celebration of Hon. Ken Chikere in Port Harcourt, Wike addressed the ongoing political tension in Rivers State. He expressed openness to peace but insisted it must be rooted in sincerity and inclusive of all major political stakeholders.

“We are men of peace, not troublemakers. But peace must be sincere—not used as a smokescreen. Members of the State Assembly, the National Assembly, and both major political parties must be involved,” Wike said.

He criticized the silence of elder statesmen in the state, accusing them of enabling the crisis by failing to take meaningful action. He also condemned media blackmail, saying such tactics would only worsen the situation.

“No amount of blackmail or embarrassment can bring peace. What will bring peace is humility and genuine concern for the state’s wellbeing,” he said.

Wike also addressed rumors regarding his health, denying claims that he had collapsed and was flown abroad for medical care. He clarified that he had traveled overseas to attend his son’s graduation.

“I’m here, healthy, and doing very well,” he said. “Someone claimed I collapsed. I was never sick. And even if I were—am I not human? Those wishing others to fall will be the ones to fall. And when they do, it will be final.”

Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions with Governor Fubara, whom he supported during the 2023 governorship election before their relationship soured.
