The Kano State Government has uncovered payroll irregularities in its local government councils, where 247 individuals—either retired or deceased—were still receiving monthly salaries.

According to a statement by Musa Muhammad, Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, the fraudulent payments amounted to ₦27,824,395.40 for March 2025 alone.

“This discovery is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to clean up the civil service payroll,” the statement said. “The affected names continued to appear on the payroll despite the individuals no longer being in service.”

The government has already recovered the funds and returned them to the Local Government Treasury, pending further investigation to determine the full scope of the fraud and identify those responsible.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, vowing to take legal action against anyone found guilty of involvement.
