Members of the Rivers State Caucus in the National Assembly have publicly declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The group, made up of two Senators and seven House of Representatives members—all from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—urged other presidential hopefuls to step down, stating that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is the best path to Nigeria’s prosperity.
The lawmakers praised Tinubu’s policies, highlighting visible successes in economic reforms, reduction of foreign debt, and declining inflation. In a statement read by Senator Barry Mpigi in Port Harcourt on Saturday, they described the President’s agenda as “working and on course.”
They expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s trust in former Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, whom the President recently praised as the “Master of Infrastructure.” They also credited Tinubu’s swift intervention in resolving the recent political crisis in Rivers State, saying it has paved the way for peace.
The statement emphasized the economic challenges Tinubu inherited, including massive debt, inflation, and decaying infrastructure, while commending his administration’s efforts to fix the damage left by past governments.
“We have come to the conclusion that the President’s economic plan is the surest way out of our country’s social and economic morass,” the lawmakers said. “We declare unequivocally our unconditional resolve to work again for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027.”
The caucus also pledged to begin what they called “the mother of all mobilizations” to ensure Tinubu’s re-election. They called on Nigerians to unite behind the President and urged other potential candidates to abandon their ambitions in favor of national progress.
