Macron: Ukraine Ready For Ceasefire, Now It’s Putin’s Move

            French President, Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that Ukraine is ready to agree to an unconditional ceasefire, urging Russia to take the next step toward ending the war.

After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome, Macron called their talks “very positive” and emphasized their shared goal of achieving peace.

“Ending the war in Ukraine is a goal we both share — including with President Trump,” Macron said.

He confirmed that Ukraine is open to stopping hostilities without conditions and is willing to work with both European and American allies to reach a peaceful resolution.

“President Zelenskyy reiterated this to me today,” he added. “Now, it’s up to President Putin to show he truly wants peace.”

Macron also reaffirmed France’s support for Ukraine through the Coalition of the Willing — a diplomatic effort launched in Paris earlier this year to help secure a ceasefire and lasting peace.

Zelenskyy, in Rome for Pope Francis’s funeral, also held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He described his meeting with Trump as “very symbolic.”
