A former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential campaign in the 2023 elections has stated that no single person, regardless of who they are, can defeat President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The actor-turned-politician made this remark during an appearance on Channels TV on Sunday, April 27.
He quoted Nelson Mandela, saying, “It always appears impossible until it happens.” While he couldn’t guarantee an alliance between Peter Obi and Atiku, he believes there will be a coalition forming as the 2027 election approaches. He added, “It may not be between Peter Obi and Atiku, but there will be a coalition. It’s the only option the opposition will have to make an impact.”
When asked if Tinubu would be unbeatable without a coalition against him, Okonkwo replied confidently, “outrightly,” saying that Tinubu would “just walk into it.”
He further explained, “No single candidate can defeat Tinubu alone. The reality in Nigeria is that winning is not enough; you must secure your victory. This means gaining the support of the elite, even if the people vote for you. If the elites unite, like they did in 2014 to challenge Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, they can unseat Tinubu in 2027.”
