The relentless spread of wildfires across Los Angeles has forced evacuations, destroyed homes, and claimed lives as emergency services battle to contain the blazes.
The Eaton Fire erupted in the hills above Pasadena near Altadena at around 6:30 PM local time on Tuesday. Within six hours, it had consumed 1,000 acres. By Wednesday night, January 8, the fire had spread to over 10,000 acres, tragically claiming five lives.
Further north, the Hurst Fire began near San Fernando around 10:10 PM on Tuesday. It has grown to 850 acres and prompted evacuation orders in nearby Santa Clarita.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the Woodley Fire ignited in Woodley Park at approximately 6:15 AM. Fortunately, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) has since contained this blaze.
Meanwhile, in Ventura County, the Olivas Fire scorched 11 acres before firefighters successfully contained it.
The Lidia Fire, which started at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Acton area north of Los Angeles, has burned almost 350 acres. By 9:00 PM, it was reported to be 40% contained.
One of the most alarming blazes, the Sunset Fire, broke out in the Hollywood Hills around 6:00 PM Wednesday. It has engulfed 50 acres and remains completely uncontained. A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for the area.
Hollywood’s elite have not been spared from the chaos. Celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Paris Hilton, Eugene Levy, and Anna Faris were forced to flee as their homes were destroyed in the fires.
