The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been removed from office following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.
An overwhelming majority of lawmakers—90%—voted in favor of his impeachment during a session held on January 12.
Hon. Mojisola Meranda, representing the Apapa 1 constituency, has been elected as the new Speaker of the Assembly.
Obasa, who has served as a representative for Agege State Constituency I since 2007, had been re-elected four times in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.
