Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended his decision to leave Marcus Rashford out of the squad, stating he won’t select players who, in his view, aren’t the best fit for the team.
Amorim’s bold move came as United suffered a 3-1 Premier League loss to Brighton on Sunday. Rashford’s exclusion has intensified speculation about the 27-year-old’s future, following his announcement last year of seeking a “fresh challenge” away from Old Trafford.
The England forward is widely expected to secure a transfer abroad in the January window. However, Amorim made it clear that Rashford’s situation would not influence his squad choices.
When asked if Rashford might return to the pitch soon, Amorim stood firm:
“It is his choice [not to play]. I don’t want to focus on this bad moment because, in the games we lost, Rashford is not here.
“I don’t want to put this moment on Rashford. Rashford is out of this moment because he is not playing.
“No matter what, I am not going to put out a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”
Amorim’s stance underscores his commitment to prioritizing team dynamics over individual star power, even as United faces a challenging period.
