Nigerian Army Arrests Boko Haram Suspect in Taraba State, Strengthening Security Efforts

The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, alongside Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), made significant strides in securing Taraba State by apprehending a suspected Boko Haram member. The arrest took place on January 26, 2025, in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.

The suspect, identified as Gambo Grema (also known as Gamboi), was tracked down and arrested by the troops. During initial questioning, Grema admitted to being part of a Boko Haram syndicate planning to engage in kidnapping for ransom to fund terrorist activities and establish a new operational base in the region. He further revealed that members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) were collaborating with them on various criminal operations.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, praised the success of the operation and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens. He called for continued cooperation among security forces to maintain peace and stability in the region.
