The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the January 18, 2018 ruling by Justice Abdu Kafarati of the Federal High Court, which proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and classified it as a terrorist organization.
On Thursday, a three-member panel of the appellate court unanimously agreed that the federal government had acted within its legal rights in outlawing the group, whose actions were seen as a threat to national security and stability.
In the lead judgment, Justice Hamma Barka dismissed the appeal, ruling that IPOB’s case lacked merit. The court’s decision effectively confirms the earlier ruling, maintaining the terrorist designation.
