FG Donates N30 Million to Family of Late Nigerian Flag Designer, Taiwo Akinkunmi

The Federal Government has donated N30 million to the family of the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, the man who designed the Nigerian flag.

Akinkunmi passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 87 after a brief illness. His burial, which took place on September 6, 2024—one year after his death—was delayed as his family awaited the state burial promised by the government.

On Thursday, Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), and Olukemi Afolayan, NOA’s Oyo State Director, presented a N30 million cheque to Akinkunmi’s family at his residence in Elebu, Ibadan.

Issa-Onilu stated that the donation was a token of appreciation for Akinkunmi’s contributions to the nation and a means of supporting his family.

Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, one of the late designer’s sons, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the gesture.
