A horrifying tragedy unfolded in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday when three young siblings were murdered by unknown assailants. The victims—a five-year-old boy and two girls, aged seven and nine—were reportedly killed in their home while they were eating. The attackers then placed their lifeless bodies in a deep freezer.
At the time of the incident, their mother, Chikazor Ejezie, a lecturer and nurse, was away for an examination, and their father, Ejezie Udochukwu, was working in Edo State. Eyewitnesses revealed that when the mother returned, she found the house open, which was unusual since her children always locked the door when leaving. After a search, their bodies were discovered inside the freezer.
The father, who was informed of the devastating news while in Edo State, immediately rushed back to Nnewichi. He recounted, “When my wife got home, she didn’t find the children. She searched everywhere, including the church where they served as altar boys and girls, but they were not there. Eventually, in desperation, they opened the deep freezer, and that’s where their bodies were found. The children were eating when the attackers came around noon. The plates with food were left as if the children had been interrupted abruptly.”
The bodies of the children have been transferred to the morgue, and the case has been reported to the Central Police Station in Nnewi. The police have launched an investigation into the gruesome incident. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, the residents of Nnewichi are calling for a swift and thorough investigation, demanding justice for the tragic loss of three innocent lives.
