Cristiano Ronaldo has never been one to hold back his opinions, and in a recent interview with Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, the football superstar didn’t mince words when reflecting on his past coaches.
The Portuguese icon, who has spent over two decades at the highest level of the game, revealed that he has worked under some managers who, in his view, were completely out of their depth.
“I learned from everyone. I had some really bad coaches,” Ronaldo admitted. “Some of them don’t have a fucking clue about football at all.”
Though he didn’t name names, many believe his comments were a fresh jab at former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, with whom he had a well-documented falling-out. Their rocky relationship culminated in Ronaldo’s controversial exit from Old Trafford in 2022.
Ronaldo has also previously been critical of Ralf Rangnick, who took over on an interim basis before Ten Hag’s arrival. With his storied career spanning legendary coaches like Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, and Carlo Ancelotti, Ronaldo’s remarks suggest that not every mentor has been up to his standards.
