President Bola Tinubu has raised Nigeria’s proposed 2025 annual budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.
The budget increase was communicated through separate letters sent to both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
During a Senate plenary session, Senator Godswill Akpabio read the president’s letter, which attributed the increase to additional revenues generated by key government agencies:
N1.4 trillion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)
N1.2 trillion from the Nigeria Customs Service
N1.8 trillion from other government-owned agencies
Following the announcement, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the Senate Committee on Appropriations to expedite the review process. He assured that the budget would be considered and passed before the end of the month.
