Gov. Alex Otti Flags Off Reconstruction of Abandoned Omenuko Bridge

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially commenced the reconstruction of the long-neglected Igwu River Bridge, popularly known as Omenuko Bridge, marking a significant step toward restoring a crucial link in Arochukwu LGA.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Ozuabam, Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, regardless of jurisdiction, stating:

“This project is meant to be a Federal project, but we don’t wait for others when our people need help. Your government will always step in where necessary.”

He revealed that the project was initially excluded from the 2024 budget due to assumptions that the Federal Government had awarded the contract. However, after realizing otherwise, funds were reallocated to ensure the bridge’s reconstruction.

“Before we start any project, we already have plans to fund it. I can assure you today that the money required for this road project is ready and waiting,” the Governor assured.

He also instructed the Commissioner for Works to shorten the completion timeline from one year to nine months, aligning with commitments from the contractor.
