Al Green, a Democratic lawmaker from Texas, has announced plans to file impeachment articles against former President Donald Trump over his proposal for the U.S. to “take over Gaza.”
During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated that the U.S. would take control of Gaza to “dismantle and develop it,” calling the region a “hellhole.”
Green condemned Trump’s remarks as a “dastardly deed” and accused him of advocating ethnic cleansing. He also criticized Netanyahu for standing by as Trump made such statements.
“The impeachment movement is going to be a grass-up movement, not a top-down,” Green said, emphasizing that public demand would drive the effort.
While Green has previously attempted to impeach Trump without success, his latest effort is unlikely to gain traction, as impeachment is not currently a priority for his party.
