Teddi Mellencamp is facing serious legal trouble despite receiving sympathy for her ongoing health struggles.
The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star is being sued by her former housekeeper, Julia Umana, who accuses her of racial discrimination and mistreatment during her employment.
In the lawsuit, which was obtained by TMZ, Umana, a former live-in nanny and housekeeper, claims that Mellencamp treated her worse than any other employee, alleging abuse of power, shorted paychecks, and a hostile work environment. According to Umana, Mellencamp subjected her to racial discrimination, accusing her of theft—despite cameras being in the house—while never making similar accusations against white employees.
Umana, an immigrant from El Salvador, also claims that Mellencamp mocked her for speaking Spanish and used a derogatory tone when speaking to her, which she says was never directed at white workers.
The lawsuit details how Umana eventually decided to resign but was pressured by Mellencamp to work three 12-hour shifts for just $325. After complaining about the pay, Umana claims she was fired without notice.
Now, Umana is seeking over $2 million in damages, alleging wrongful termination and unpaid wages. Mellencamp has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
