President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the reconstruction and expansion of Section One of the Lagos-Ibadan Dual Carriageway and Section One of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Saturday, Tinubu, represented by Governor Dapo Abiodun, announced that the project, set for completion in 24 months, will include underpasses at Kara, Wawa, Magboro, and Arepo, along with flyover bridges at key locations. Pedestrian bridges will also be constructed at Arepo, Magboro, NASFAT, Deeper Life, and Redemption Camp to enhance road safety.
The president emphasized the strategic importance of the expressway as Nigeria’s busiest highway, serving as a crucial link between Lagos and 17 southern states. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing road infrastructure to improve mobility, safety, and economic productivity.
Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, highlighted that the project covers 24 kilometers in this phase, with an additional 48 kilometers planned in the next stage extending to Ijebu-Ode. He assured strict oversight to ensure efficient execution and accountability.
The project has been widely welcomed, with stakeholders, including the Akarigbo of Remoland, urging additional flyovers and emergency response facilities along the route. Governor Abiodun performed the official flag-off on behalf of President Tinubu.
