Marcus Jordan, the 34-year-old son of basketball icon Michael Jordan, has had his cocaine possession charges revised following his DUI arrest on February 4 in Florida. Initially, police suspected the white powdery substance found in his car was cocaine, as a field test confirmed a positive result for the drug. However, further analysis by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has determined the substance was actually ketamine, according to TMZ.
The mix-up occurred due to the similar appearance and texture of cocaine and ketamine. While both are illegal substances, it remains unclear how this will impact Jordan’s potential sentencing.
Jordan, who was arrested in Orange County and later released, has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge. He also posted a thank-you message on Instagram for the support he received. Police had discovered his vehicle stuck on railroad tracks at 1:14 a.m. after he fled a traffic stop initiated by Seminole County sheriff’s deputies.
Legal documents show that Jordan’s attorneys have requested a jury trial for the DUI charge, the felony cocaine possession charge, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence. His pretrial conference for the DUI is set for March 20, though no specific court date has been scheduled for the other charges.
