Tragedy struck in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, when four people died and two others were hospitalized after consuming a poisonous fish. The incident occurred on February 22, 2025, when six Fulani herders—Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna—went fishing at a nearby river. After catching and cooking the fish, they unknowingly consumed a toxic species, which caused severe illness.
By February 23, the victims were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila, where four of them—Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo—were confirmed dead. The two survivors, Musa and Haruna, are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The incident was reported to the police by Haruna Isiaka of Chidawa Village. The bodies have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations into the cause of the poisoning continue.
