The World Bank has approved a total of $2.2 billion in loans for the Federal Government of Nigeria for 2025, to support six major projects.
Key allocations include $500 million for the “Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus Programme,” set for approval on March 17, and $552 million for the “HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All” program, scheduled for March 31. An additional $800 million will be allocated to the “Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0” project, also slated for approval on March 31.
The World Bank will approve further funding for the “Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project” ($300 million) on July 15, and the “Health Security Program” ($300 million) on August 19. A final approval of $500 million for the “Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth (BRIDGE)” project will take place on September 15.
Both the BRIDGE and Health Security programs are currently undergoing initial assessments. As of late 2024, Nigeria’s loan exposure from the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) stood at $16.8 billion, with Nigeria remaining the third-largest borrower.
