Former Broncos Player Settles Lawsuit with NFL Over Knee Injury

Ex-Denver Broncos LB Aaron Patrick settles lawsuit with NFL

Aaron Patrick, a former special teams player for the Denver Broncos, has reached a settlement with the NFL following a lawsuit over a knee injury sustained in 2022. Patrick tore his ACL during overtime in a “Monday Night Football” game against the L.A. Chargers at SoFi Stadium. The injury occurred when he stepped on a mat covering cords for the league’s replay system, causing his foot to get caught and his knee to bend awkwardly as he tried to avoid a sideline official.

Patrick sued the NFL, the L.A. Chargers, ESPN, and the mat company involved, claiming the injury could have been prevented and seeking compensation for lost earnings. A conditional settlement was reached this week, though terms remain undisclosed. Patrick’s attorney, William M. Berman, stated that his client is satisfied with the outcome and is now focused on his career. Patrick, waived by the Broncos in August 2023, has not been signed by any team since.
