Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has fully covered the dowries of 300 couples, totaling N54 million, as part of a mass wedding initiative organized by NANAS Foundation, a pet project of his wife, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris.
The grand ceremony took place at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace in Birnin Kebbi, with high-profile dignitaries in attendance. APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented the grooms, while the Emir of Gwandu, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashar, stood for the brides. Islamic clerics officiated the marriages after the N180,000 dowry for each bride was settled.
Governor Idris urged the newlyweds to build their homes on fairness and respect, while Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu, praised the initiative as a call for wealthy individuals to support marriage. The government also provided furniture, foodstuffs, and other essentials to the couples, with additional cash donations from dignitaries.
The initiative, aimed at strengthening family stability and economic empowerment, received widespread commendation.
