On Thursday night, February 27, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that discussions between Russia and Ukraine regarding a peace deal are making significant progress. Speaking alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House, Trump commended Russia for its role in the ongoing talks.
Starmer, during the meeting, urged the United States to provide security support for any European forces involved in a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine once the peace talks reach a conclusion—efforts that Trump has championed since assuming office last month.
In the Oval Office, Trump expressed confidence that a peace agreement with Russia would hold, adding that he does not believe President Putin would invade Ukraine again. However, he emphasized that details regarding peacekeeping would not be disclosed until an official deal is made.
“I think Russia has been acting very well… We’re very well advanced on the deal, but we have not made a deal yet,” Trump stated.
