A magnitude 4.4 earthquake rattled homes in Townsville on Saturday night.

Initial reports suggest tremors were felt as far as Cairns.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre assessed there was no risk of a tsunami on account of the earthquake’s magnitude and location.

Geoscience Australia is urging people to remember to “drop, cover and hold on” during an earthquake.
