The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey during Sunday’s FA Cup match against Manchester United.
Bassey scored the opening goal at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes later equalizing. However, it was the west London club that advanced to the quarter-finals after securing a 4-3 win on penalties.
Despite his standout performance in the FA Cup clash, Bassey was subjected to racist comments on his social media account from certain supporters. This sparked an immediate response from the NFF through a statement on its official X account.
“The NFF stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports Calvin Bassey in the face of these unacceptable actions,” the statement read.
“We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field. Calvin has our full support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society.”
